Kampaikti, Kawthoung borders pocket US$26.92 mln as of 3rd week of April

Myanmar’s border trade with Thailand through the Kampaikti checkpoint has amounted to US$24.755 million as of the third week of April since 1 April 2023, the Ministry of Commerce’s statistics indicated. Between 1 and 25 April, export via Kampaikti was worth $23.607 million and import was valued at $1.148 million. The Kampaikti border was aimed to achieve export targets of $15 million in exports and $0.9 million in imports.
Tissue-cultured bananas are the main export item at the Kampaikti border, whereas empty cargo containers, capital goods, construction materials, consumer goods and clothes are imported.
The border post witnessed an outflow of 2,685 trucks of tissue-cultured bananas, three trucks of fresh chilli pepper, nine trucks of pumpkins, 94 trucks of watermelons and one truck of rice husk charcoal.
Exports surpass imports at the Kawthoung border. The fishery products are primarily shipped to Thailand through the Kawthoung border. Various kinds of fish, shrimp, salted fish, crab, squid, oyster, fish powder, chestnut and oil palm fruit are exported to the neighbouring country.
Moreover, fishery products and consumer goods worth $2.167 million are exported to Thailand through the Kawthoung border as of the third week of April, including exports worth $1.131 million and $1.036 million in imports.
Myanmar delivers fishery products such as squid, crab and by-products of oil palm fruit to Thailand when salt, diesel, octane, soda, sodium carbonate, charcoal powder, corn, plastic ice bucket, tapioca starch, lime powder, zinc oxide, edible bird’s nest, hydrogen peroxide, fishing net, dye powder and soap raw materials are brought into the country. — TWA/EM
