The semifinal hope of the Myanmar U-19 women’s football team is alive even though they faced a 0-1 loss to team Thailand in the final group match of AFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2023 at Jakabaring Athletic Field, Palembang, Indonesia yesterday.
Although the Myanmar team lost this match, they were better than Thailand in terms of ability. With a turbo attack, the Myanmar team set up a fantastic pass with massive defence. Team Thailand relied on counterplay, but it did not work well under the pressure given by Myanmar. Both sides played with sweat and the first half ended goalless.
The Thai players’ desire to win was stronger than Myanmar’s in the second half. Thailand broke the deadlock just before the final whistle and led the group to the top position.
“It’s a difficult match. My girls tried their best. We will try our best to correct our mistakes in the upcoming games to make our dreams come true,” said Myanmar head coach Daw Thet Thet Win.
With the loss, Team Myanmar stood as a second-placed team and faced against Viet Nam in the semifinal. Thailand will take on host Indonesia in the other match for the semifinal. Myanmar vs Viet Nam match will be played on 13 July (3 pm Myanmar Standard Time) while Thailand will face Indonesia at 7 pm MST. — KZL
