Ministry of Health approves expansion of cancer treatment facilities and funding

Three new items of cancer radiotherapy equipment will be installed at some general hospitals this year for cancer treatment, as announced by the Ministry of Health.
Currently, Yangon General Hospital, Mandalay General Hospital, Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital (1000-bed), and Taunggyi Sao San Tun General Hospital have already been facilitated with 12 cancer radiotherapy units to serve patients.
Three new pieces of equipment, one to be purchased with a special permission from the Head of State and two others under the Ministry of Health’s arrangement, will be installed at the newly-built National Cancer Treatment Centre in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township this year.
Additionally, the government has already approved a fund of K12 billion for the purchase of cancer drugs this year. In 2023, the aforesaid general hospitals provided radiotherapy treatment for patients 110,367 times at general military hospitals and private hospitals in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. —ASH/MKKS
