Myanmar boasts of its culture and traditions. The country had existed as an independent and sovereign country under own monarch. Therefore, Myanmar people are the ones who preserve and protect their own traditional cultures without any inspiration from other cultures.
Myanmar’s traditional outfits and dressing styles are beautiful, auspicious, admirable, simple and elegant. They can give peace of mind to the eyes of the beholder. Ethnic groups like Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Bamar, Rakhine and Shan have their own culture, traditions and costumes.
Myanmar girls proudly wear traditional attire (Yinphone and Htamain) during festivals, donations, and philanthropic and religious events.
Buddhism beliefs are heavily related to Myanmar girls’ dressing styles and culture. Myanmar girls wearing Yinphone blouses and Htamain (sarong) to preserve the tradition and cultural heritage are young women’s perceptions and traditional ideals in the country. Foreigners can recognize a Myanmar girl by looking at her attire.
Artists portray the beauty of Myanmar women and their dressing styles without losing their cultural grip from rural areas to urban cities. Traditional attire looks more satisfying with simple and elegant features. The outfits are not too sophisticated and revealing, yet the chic outfit ideas are seen. It’s written to honour the cultural heritage and value of Myanmar women’s traditional costumes in commemoration of International Women’s Day, which fell on 8 March. — Zeyar Htet (Minbu)/GNLM
