Coord meeting on storm-hit agricultural sector in Rakhine State held

A coordination meeting on rehabilitation for the loss and damage in the agricultural sector in Rakhine State was held yesterday at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation. Union Minister U Min Naung, Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi, Permanent Secretary U Kyaw Min Oo, the directors-general and departmental officials attended the meeting.
Union Minister U Min Naung highlighted that the ground statistics of the damage in the agricultural sector of Rakhine State should be collected as quickly as possible and the reconstruction of buildings should be prioritized. To distribute the required seeds in time, the plan should be underway in advance and prepare for mechanized farming, if necessary, he added. He underscored the need to provide foodstuffs, school uniforms and textbooks for employees and families from respective departments.
Next, the deputy minister and attendees reported on the activities to be coordinated with local governments in line with national guidelines on natural disaster management, the need for the provision of seeds from the private sector, the status of opening the Agricultural Institute (Kyauktaw), plans to send skilled workers from the Mechanized Agriculture Department, the damage to irrigation facilities and the livestock breeding sector.
