The Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Ministry of Health announced a list of 19 varieties of food that should not be consumed by the public on 12 October.
The FDA authorities found the use of unpermitted preservatives, dye and extreme use of permitted food additive chemicals that can affect the health of customers after examining these 19 varieties of food via the markets and school canteens.
These foods should not be consumed long-term, which could damage the stomach, liver, and kidneys and cause cancer.
These products are being sold at the shops in Magway Region, Shan, Kayin and Rakhine states.
Moreover, the FDA warned food manufacturers and distributors not to use the prohibited dye and preservatives in the foods at all, and to use the permitted food additive chemicals only within the prescribed amount.
If they fail to follow the instructions, they will face legal action under Section 28 (a) of the National Food Law. — TWA/ KTZH
