The Fisheries Department is making arrangements to provide a shop to the Myanmar Ornamental Fish Entrepreneurs Association (MOFEA) at the fish aquarium, which will open in Kandawgyi, Yangon, according to a report in Myawady Daily yesterday.
“We have had discussions with MOFEA concerning fresh fish. We will provide 10 shops to the association,” said U Tun Win Myint, regional head of section for Yangon Region’s Fisheries Department.
In Myanmar, some people breed ornamental fish as a hobby, but some are for commercial scale. Ornamental fish breeders had requested the aquarium for a shop. Currently, MOFEA sells ornamental fish at Yangon Zoology Garden every Sunday morning.
The construction of the fish aquarium started in 2016 and 80 per cent of the work has been completed. The project is still under construction and is expected to open in April 2018.
