A convocation ceremony to confer honorary doctorate in political science on President U Thein Sein was held at the Busan University of Foreign Studies in the Republic of Korea on Friday evening.
At the convocation, Rector Mr Jung Hae Lin explained why the university conferred on the president the doctorate, saying that the president have played a pivotal role in significant reforms and development that have been taking place in Myanmar. In addition, the rector said that the president is also exerting efforts for ceasefire with ethnic nationals and has replaced the military rule with a political culture in which the nation is ruled by the elected.
The president is honored as he has devoted his life for development in various sectors, the rector concluded.
Then, the rector and a department head conferred the honorary doctorate on the president.
Then, the president delivered a speech at the convocation, saying that the positive changes taking place in Myanmar in the last four years contributed to improving the image of the nation in regional and international community. Then, the president expressed his gratitude to the ROK and its people and educational institutions for their uninterrupted support for political, economic and social changes in Myanmar during recent years, requesting more assistance and further cooperation in the education sector from the university as the international assistance is essential for capacity building and educational development that will help nurture democratic practices in Myanmar.
Afterwards, the president and the rector formally opened the U Thein Sein Hall built at the university in honour of the president.
Then, the president warmly greeted the rector, officials and students studying Myanmar language at the university.
In the evening, the president, together with union ministers and officials, attended the dinner hosted by the chairman of Daewoo International Company at the Westin Chosun Hotel.
