Illegal teak, foodstuffs, consumer goods and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
An on-duty team led by the Bago Township Customs Department under the supervision of the Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force made inspections.
Officials confiscated 170 old electric bicycles worth K10.2 million that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Nissan Diesel car (estimated value of K30 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon near the Phayagyi Shwethanlwin Tollgate on 4 October. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 6 October, a combined inspection team seized a total of 3.8340 tonnes of illegal teak worth K543,360 in Yedashe township of Toungoo district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Afterwards, on 4 October, a combined team under the Ayeyawady Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force captured an unregistered Toyota Wish car (approximately K10 million) at the Myatto junction on the Pathein-Monywa Road in Pathein township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, the Hteedan Container Checkpoint nabbed K37.8 million worth of bicycle parts that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a container on 5 October. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint in Mon State captured 720 litres of edible oil worth K2.4 million that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a Nissan Diesel truck (approximately K40 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 5 and 6 October, a combined inspection team confiscated 2,460 litres of edible oil worth K5.15 million without official documents in Myawady township and 65 cartons of apples worth K1.95 million without official documents from a vehicle at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Therefore, ten arrests estimated at K138,043,360 were made on three consecutive days from 4 to 6 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.— MNA
