Illegal timbers, communication materials, industrial raw materials and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
A combined team led by the Tatmadaw under the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force made inspections at the Einshaebyin Checkpoint in Dawei on 19 October.
Officials captured 8.5074 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K85,955,180 from a Nissan Diesel 12-wheel car (estimated value of K80 million). The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 20 October, a combined team led by Myanmar Police Force nabbed three unregistered motorbikes (estimated value of K610,000) in Monywa and Shwebo townships and an unregistered Pajero car (approximately K2.5 million) on Karboe-Htankon-Kanbalu road. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
In addition, an on-duty team under the management of the Customs Department confiscated K3.8 million worth of communication materials without the approval of the Thilawa SEZ Management Committee at the One-Stop Service Centre (OSSC) of Thilawa SEZ and 6,625 kilogrammes of high-density polyethene worth K11.13 million that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Hino Prifia Tractor Head with trailer (approximately K40 million) on Myawady-Hpa-an-Yangon road in Phayagyi town. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
On 21 October, a total of 6.8216 tonnes of illegal timbers was seized in An township of Kyaukpyu district in Rakhine State. The action was taken under the Forest Law. Similarly, a total of 52.4520 tonnes of illegal teak worth K16,355,520 in Yedashe and Oktwin townships and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 11 arrests estimated at K160,575,672 were made on three consecutive days from 19 to 21 October, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
