Illegal timbers, utensils, electronics and vehicles seized

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
On 19 May, a Customs inspection team on duty at the Myanmar International Port (Thilawa) conducted an inspection under the management of the Customs Department.
The action was taken under the Customs procedures for 13 vehicles (estimated value of K169,065,154) which were abandoned by the owner without the expiration date of the import declaration (ID) and non-FDA-approved COVID-19 protective equipment including hand sanitizers and test kits (estimated value of K29,736,278).
Similarly, the Customs Inspection Team on duty at the Myanmar Industrial Port Container Terminal conducted inspections under the management of the Customs Department.
Illegal construction lenses (estimated value of K14,210,812) were seized on 19 May and electronics and utensils (approximately K34,394,800) which were not included in the import declaration ID were also seized on 20 May.
Similarly, a joint inspection team led by the Bago Region Forest Department, under the management of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, conducted inspections in Bago District and 7.072 tonnes of illegal timbers (estimated value of K3,758,032) were seized on 21 May. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 18 arrests (estimated value of K251,165,076) were made on three consecutive days, according to the Steering Committee for Combating Illegal Trade. — MNA
