Mandalay Region emerges as a thriving tourist destination

Mandalay Region, a popular destination for both domestic and international travellers throughout the year, has witnessed significant growth in its accommodation sector. According to U Min Maung Soe, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Mandalay Region), the region currently boasts a total of 587 hotels, motels, and guesthouses offering 22,531 rooms.
This number includes 449 hotels and motels with 19,896 rooms, catering to travellers seeking various levels of comfort and amenities. Additionally, 138 guesthouses offer 2,635 rooms, providing more budget-friendly options for visitors.
U Min Maung Soe emphasized the region’s commitment to providing convenient accommodations for travellers year-round. The department actively facilitates this by issuing permits for new hotels, motels, and guesthouses that comply with all regulations.
Mandalay Region is also actively developing new tourist destinations to enhance visitor experiences. These include the teak monastery, which is over 100 years old, in Aungmyaythazan Township, and the Makkhaya Old City in Singaing Township.
The region’s tourism industry saw remarkable growth in 2023, welcoming over 2.4 million tourists. This impressive figure comprises over 2.1 million domestic visitors and over 310,000 foreign visitors, showcasing the region’s increasing appeal to a diverse audience. — ASH/ TMT
