Media Sector Development Meeting Held

For the development of media sector, the meeting between representatives from news media organizations including Myanmar Press Council co-sponsored by the Tatmadaw true news information team and spokesperson and the media team of the Ministry of Information was held at 1 pm on July 27, at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Information, in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting Dr Pe Myint, Union Minister for Information said about the performances of the Ministry for the development of media sector, efforts to acquire the right of news coverage more than ever, matters on discussions to be submitted by media-men as to what they want to make and they do not want to make, the problems being experienced currently by media-men, and expectations which will come out from this meeting.
Major General Myint Nwe, Deputy Minister for Defense said about Tatmadaw-run media’s news broadcasting likewise State-run media’s efforts with a view to sending the news to the public to keep up with the time, making news releases occasionally through the Tatmadaw true news information team formed systematically for the smoothness of news flow, making replies to the questions raised concerning with the State, the People and Tatmadaw and receiving news-media men by the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Service himself depending upon availability.
Major General Aung Ye Win, director of the department of public relations and psychological welfare under the Ministry of Defense and deputy chairman of Tatmadaw true news information team explained about the formation of Tatmadaw true news information team, set-up of leading and working committees, amounts of Tatmadaw media and broadcasting programmes, on-line face-book social media pages of the Tatmadaw, Tatmadaw’s major tasks and national cause, situations on Tatmadaw’s stance over public relations and media, holding news conferences, invitation of news media in the programmes of Tatmadaw training, matters which would like to inform the media and situations on releasing military operation news.
U Aung Hla Tun, vice-chairman (1) of Myanmar Press Council said the media ethics, truth, necessities of accuracy, fairness, freedom from bias and timely presentation of the news to the public, failure to gain success without co-operation with the remaining three panels, need to contact with authorities concerned for the acquisition of information of great importance in time for the action and potential violation of media ethics as for the media men.
Afterwards, responsible personnel from Myanmar journalists Association, Myanmar Press Union, Myanmar Journalists Network, Tatmadaw true news information team and Myanmar Press Council discussed respectively.
At today’s meeting, matters on building up understanding and trust among the State, Tatmadaw and news media, and smoothness of releasing news, were frankly discussed.—MNA
