MoH Union Minister addresses boosting health sector readiness for monsoon disasters

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win attended the meeting on strengthening health sector preparations for natural disasters likely to happen in the monsoon season yesterday.
Speaking at the event, the Union minister said natural disasters, such as floods, storms, wind, and landslides, can occur in the monsoon season, and there might be earthquakes. In addition to these disasters, there might be health problems. However, the ministry made preparations and reduced the health problems. The meetings on preparation and workshop were held in 2023, and the procedures were set as part of preparedness.
He added that all those responsible should learn from previous experiences and lessons to perform better actions. It also needs to speed up the prevention and control of dengue fever, diarrhoea, and other diseases that usually occur in the rainy season. There might be different natural disasters in various regions and states, as well as Nay Pyi Taw, so the relevant officials should prepare for potential disasters.
He also instructed attendees to watch the daily weather forecast of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and natural disaster news around the world in order to make preparations in advance. He encouraged them to offer public healthcare services, including healthcare in natural disasters.
The Division on Natural Disaster and Public Health Emergency Response then reported on the activities conducted between 2023 and April 2024 and ongoing work plans.
