MraukU storm Mocha renovation nears completion

According to U Maung San Win, Deputy Director of the Department of Archeology and National Museum (MraukU Branch), renovations for the damage caused by the Mocha storm in the MraukU cultural area in Rakhine State have reached the final stage.
As for the buildings that need to be repaired urgently, the renovation started last June, and the repair work has reached the stage of completion at the end of September.
“Most of the ancient stone-hewn buildings in the MraukU cultural area were not damaged by the Mocha storm. However, some old renovated building parts and walls have been damaged.
All preparations have reached the final stage. A stone temple located on a mountain about two miles away from the MraukU cultural area was destroyed and collapsed, so the necessary information for reconstruction is still being collected. Calculations are being made to prepare for the next fiscal year. That’s the only thing left,” said U Maung San Win.
Some of the ancient buildings in the MraukU cultural area that were damaged by the Mocha storm have been restored changing original designs. Most of them were minor damage, so they were repaired with funds approved for the current financial year. — ASH/KZL
