Myanmar, Mekong Region countries discuss M&E on resistance to antibiotics

Organized by the National Health Laboratory Department under the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Health and Sports, Myanmar is hosting the Workshop on Monitoring the Resistance to Antibiotics and Performing Research in the Mekong Region.
Held at Summit Park View Hotel in Yangon, the two-day workshop began yesterday and will conclude today.
Firstly, Prof. Dr. Daw Htay Htay Tin, Deputy Director-General of the NHL Department, delivered the opening speech followed by greetings from heads of delegations from Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam.
Attending the workshop were officials from the 12 townships of Myanmar included in the Mekong Region health security project, officials from township-level departments of agriculture, livestock and irrigation, representatives from Mekong Region countries including Cambodia, Laos, Viet Nam, China and Thailand, and representatives from domestic and foreign partner organizations.
In the two days of the workshop participants will discuss tasks for monitoring resistance to antibiotics and discovering new technologies to reduce resistance to antibiotics in the region. The countries of the Mekong Region will collaborate on researching resistance to antibiotics and setting implementation tasks.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
