The postponement of general elections will be likely only either at the outbreak of natural disaster or in the absence of regional security, the chairman of the Union Election Commission on Friday told a meeting with its subcommissions.
U Tin Aye said the number of constituencies will remain unchanged as they represent townships. There are 330 townships in the country.
The chairman briefed on the functions of the commission, urging the subcommissions to play a supervisory role and stick to the letter of the law in undertaking their missions.
The meeting discussed the designation of constituencies and polling stations.
According to an announcement made by the Union Election Commission on 1 January, general elections were planned in late October or early November.
