Myanmar is a country integrated with different cultures. Located between two big countries endowed with high cultural standards in their respective traditions, preservation of Myanmar’s traditional fine arts which are legacy of forefathers is a national duty of the government and all citizens while plucking those countries’ fruits and best works suitable for Myanmar society.
Aimed at ensuring the perpetual existence of Myanmar’s traditional performing arts, the government arranges to resume the Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competitions for the 23rd time in coming October as part of efforts to preserve traditional singing, dancing, song composing and music playing professions.
The relevant committees will arrange the necessary assistance for the competitions and transport services for contestants on their returns and downtown trips. The already formed singing, dancing, song composing, music playing, marionette, theatrical performances, modern/nationalistic songs, the narration of stories assessment working groups will assess the presence of contestants in respective events to choose the best performers.
At present, the prize-winning contestants turned out by 22 performing arts competitions are taking a firm position in the artiste arenas as professional performers in presenting their creations, initiatives and performances to the people.
The performing arts competitions have been preserving Myanmar’s intangible heritage such as singing, dancing, composing songs and playing traditional musical instruments. Five kinds of Myanmar’s traditional musical instruments namely small brass gongs, string musical instruments such as harp and the crocodile-shaped string instrument, the instrument made of leather such as drums, Dobet and Ozi, oboe and flute, and clapping as well as bamboo claps are tangible heritage and the playing and singing techniques, the intangible heritage.
Not only prize winners but outstanding performers from the competitions are standing on their own in creating performances as their professional works as well as their livelihoods. On the other hand, they all are discharging the national duty for preserving Myanmar’s traditional culture for perpetual existence as long as the country and the people of Myanmar without focusing on the income from performances.

Indeed, the performing arts competitions are trying to occupy the applause and hearts of audiences while contestant performers need to try for giving their hearts and souls made of their performances, initiatives, innovation and creation to the people. That is why the exchange of hearts and souls between the performers and audiences will be designed to preserve the Myanmar traditional culture.
