The Senior General inaugurates the Myanmar Public Health Conference 2023 in Nay Pyi Taw on 6 December 2023.
According to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, efforts must be expedited for people, including all ethnicities, to access quality healthcare services at minimal cost.
Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech at the Myanmar Public Health Conference 2023 opening ceremony at the Myanmar International Convention Centre-II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
First, the Senior General cut the ribbon to open the archway of the conference. He continued that as the government could emphasize the public health sector, the maternal death rate could be reduced to 60 per cent in 2020 rather than the per cent in 1990 and the mortality rate by 53.2 per cent in 2021 from 2000. With regard to the success of the health sector, the Senior General underscored that the infant death rate plunged to 42.1 per cent in 2021 in comparison with that of 2000.
The infection rate of TB declined to 20 per cent in 2020. As such, Myanmar is the only country in Southeast Asia that succeeded in reaching the end TB milestone, he added. Moreover, the country remarkably reduced HIV/AIDS and malaria outbreak rates.
He highlighted that the government has been increasing the allocation of funds for the health sector year after year on the purchase of medications for vaccination, TB and HIV treatments, maternal and child nutrition development, and purchase of medicines for hypertension, diabetes and heart diseases.
The Senior General recounted that under the leadership of the government, health staff, well-wishers, and people joined hands in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic in a short time with the lowest casualties.
He remarked that Myanmar could post a milestone in the health sector without spreading infectious diseases in the post-COVID-19 period and in the aftermath of cyclone Mocha, which occurred in May 2023.
The Senior General urged all to analyze experiences and knowledge from the conference, apply them in the public healthcare services, and strive to ensure the promotion of public healthcare services to increase life expectancy.
