The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held the meeting to explain the duties and responsibilities of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities yesterday morning in Nay Pyi Taw.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine, the Permanent Secretary, Directors-General and Deputy Directors-General.
The Department of Resettlement explained the formation of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, duties and responsibilities of the committee, procedures related to the committee and proposal to reform the committee to the Union Minister.
The Union Minister said it was necessary to continue the process of disability classification and registration of the persons with disabilities and make efforts to finalize the five-year strategic plan for the rights of persons with disabilities.
She continued the remaining decisions of the national committee will be made according to priority by adding the reformation of the national committee and continuing meetings, working together with the United Nations, INGOs and NGOs working on disability issues to ensure that the process continues unabated.—MNA/GNLM
