Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye attends ASEM Conference on “Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons”

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye attended the first day of ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Conference on ‘Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons’ in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Union Minister then attended the ministerial-level dialogue of Prime Minister of Republic of Korea Mr. Lee Nak-yeon and ministerial level officials from the ASEM Conference attended countries.
Speaking at the dinner which was held after the conference, the Union Minister apprecitated the efforts of the Asia-Europe member countries for promoting the rights of older persons’ health, poverty alleviation and protection from discrimination.
He expressed his belief that ASEM Global Ageing Center (AGAC) would play a leading role in the efforts.
His ministry has provided fundamental human rights to the people including older persons, after laying down policies in accord with the democratic standards, he said.
Social pensions have been provided to over 45,000 older persons aged over 90 since 2017.
Starting from this October, the social pensions will be provided to the older persons aged over 85, and the number of aged people who receive social pensions will reach over 150,000 across the nation.
Myanmar is carrying out the Sustainable Development Goals (2018-2030) set by the United Nations Development Programme, the Union Minister explained.
The Union Minister was accompanied by the Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Thura U Thet Oo Maung at the meeting.
The ASEM Conference on “Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons” will be held until 7 September.
