Union Minister meets with officials from Mandalay, Sagaing regions agriculture sector

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu met with agriculture sector officials of Mandalay and Sagaing regions at Mandalay Region Agriculture Department meeting hall yesterday afternoon. Present at the meeting were directors general, deputy directors general of Department of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries and Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department and districts and regions agriculture department heads. At the meeting, the Union Minister spoke of the requirement for public servants to follow the laws, rules and regulations related to their works, conduct their works without bias, impartially and transparently. Review own strengths and weaknesses, be supportive and cooperate with related departments and aim toward fulfilling own duties and responsibilities. Innovation and systematic management is required to adapt to changing climate situation as agriculture, livestock and irrigation is dependent on the weather and climate. Only through good preparation and with a systematic management in stages within the region can the effect of unpredictable climate and natural disasters could be reduced and overcame. Irrigation water will be supplied depending upon water collected in dams and reservoirs so preparation and arrangement of input requirements such as selection of crops based on weather/climate, changing of crops, technical sector, seeds etc. are to be systematically conducted. On the work process of upgrading farmlands, sustainable and effective usage of agriculture lands must be maintained. Difficulties and problems encountered were to be resolved according to farmland law and rules. Designated tender rules and financial management procedures were to be followed exactly said the Union Minister.
Meeting attendees then discussed region wise works conducted and future works. The Union Minister remarked and coordinated on the discussions.
After the meeting the Union Minister and party went to Aungmyethazan Township Thayetkone Fishery Station and inspected the fishery research works conducted at fresh water fish research and information center where Fisheries Department Director General U Khin Maung Maw and researchers provided explanations.
Next the Union Minister and party went to Mandalay Region Amarapura Township Natyaykan Fish Hatchery where officials explained about fish hatchery works, distribution of fingerlings, courses conducted to develop capacity of fish farmers and personnel.
