US$30.519M worth of medical supplies imported

According to the Ministry of Commerce’s records, drugs and medical supplies valued at $30.519 million were imported from 26 foreign countries in December 2023.
On 13 August 2023, the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce for Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices (MCCPMD) announced efforts to prevent medicine shortages, given the increasing costs of home remedies and essential medicines in the medical industry.
The statement highlights that the MCCPMD has already imported necessary medicines for citizens. They urged pharmaceutical companies, wholesale distribution stores, and retail stores to continue their usual pharmaceutical trade without interruptions. Additionally, they called on medicine suppliers to expedite the import of medicines and medical supplies, as efforts are underway to facilitate and streamline pharmaceutical imports.
It is reported that $30.519 million worth of 1,300 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies were reportedly imported from countries including Argentina, Belgium, Switzerland, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Cyprus, Ecuador, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Spain, the Philippines, Singapore, Portugal, Thailand, the US, and Viet Nam. — TWA/ TRKM
