71st Martyrs’ Day ceremony held at NLD headquarters

IN honour and memory of the Martyrs, led by Bogyoke Aung San, the 71st anniversary of the Martyrs’ Day ceremony was held at the headquarters of the National League for Democra-cy (NLD) in Bahan Township yesterday morning.
Before the ceremony be-gan, a minute’s silence was observed by members of the central executive committee of the NLD, the public and stu-dents at 10.37 am, the time at which Bogyoke Aung San and the Martyrs were assassinated. Later, the ceremony began by saluting the national flag of My-anmar, Bogyoke Aung San and martyred leaders and observ-ing an eight-second silence for those who sacrificed their lives for the democracy movement. Next, Chairperson of the cere-mony, NLD Central Executive Committee secretariat mem-ber U Nyan Win, delivered an opening speech and member of the NLD central executive committee U Thein Oo read the 71st anniversary of Martyrs’ Day announcement and messages. The ceremony was attend-ed by members of the NLD central executive committee, Deputy Speaker of the Yangon Region Hluttaw U Lin Naing Myint, Yangon Region min-ister for electricity, industry, and roads and communications Daw Nilar Kyaw, veteran poli-ticians, diplomats, members of the NLD and other invited guests.
“Martyrs’ Day ceremonies are now being held not only at the Martyr’s Mausoleum but also in townships throughout the whole country in memory of the Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence and for the public. Young stu-dents in Myanmar should have such a spirit from a young age itself,” said Deputy Speaker of the Yangon Region Hluttaw U Lin Naing Myint.
The NLD released a nine-point announcement at the cer-emony, it is learnt.
