Govt tries to meet bean shipping target to India

The Ministry of Commerce is constantly monitoring the prices of products to prevent shortages and price-gouging in the market for the consumers to buy the basic foodstuffs at reasonable prices during COVID-19 outbreak, said Union Minister Dr Pwint San during a virtual coordination meeting yesterday.
Then, he added that the relevant departmental officials and entrepreneurs should discuss the matters to be provided or solved by the government in distributing the foodstuffs and preventing the high prices.
Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung, other departmental officials, Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw development Committee members clarified their respective work plans.
The Union Minister also presided over a coordination meeting on exporting mung bean and pigeon pea to India under MoU at noon. During the meeting, the Union Minister said the bilateral MoU between India and Myanmar for the exports of mung beans and pigeon peas was made on 18 June 2021.
He also discussed the local production rate, market situation, good points and weak points of exporters, formation of joint oversight committee on bean exports, systematic plans for the exports of mung beans and pigeons unlike other bean exports under G to G agreement and plans to meet the fixed tonnes of beans yearly. He also highlighted the needs to increase the export volumes considering the country’s bean cultivation acres, production rate and surplus rate, and the plans to penetrate the foreign markets in addition to Indian market.
Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation discussed the 5-year solid market for Myanmar bean farmers through G to G agreement with India, plans for farmers to follow GAP, distribution of proper seedlings and modern techniques, issuance of Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) and other cooperation work in exporting beans to India.—MNA
