Pilgrims from all over the country came in flocks to celebrate the Tazaungdine holidays in the Bagan-NyaungU Archeological Zone yesterday, according to U Than Myint Oo, Head of office of the Shwezigon Pagoda Board of Trustees.
Shwezigon Pagoda is one of the major pagodas where pilgrims usually pay visits in Bagan. The pagoda has extended visiting hours from 5 am to 8 pm during the holiday period although it is open from 6 am to 6 pm on regular days, he further explained. Nineteen pagodas have their boards of trustees in Bagan, and visitors were allowed to visit following COVID-19 preventive guidelines.
Bagan Archeological Zone is a historical site in Myanmar with over 4,000 pagodas and temples built between the 11th and 13th centuries. As of yesterday, the most famous pagodas such as Shwezigon, Ananda Temple, Thabbyinnyu and Dammayangyi pagodas, renowned as four major pagodas to visit in Bagan, were crowded with pilgrims. Moreover, visitors also paid visits to other historical pagodas, including Manuha, Lawkananda, Tooth relic Pagoda, Sulamuni, Soemingyi Okkyaung and Minnanthu pagoda.
In addition to the pilgrimage, they have become more interested in ancient mural paintings and artistic decorations of the pagodas. More than 6,000 pilgrims reportedly visited the Bagan-NyaungU Archaeological Site on the Tazaungdine holidays. — Ko Htein(KPD)/GNLM
