Myanmar chairs 3rd workshop on good agricultural practices of BIMSTEC

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation chaired the 3rd workshop on good agricultural practices (GAP) of the member states of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) through videoconferencing yesterday morning and the director-general for the Department of Agriculture addressed the workshop.
The workshop was chaired by Deputy Director-General of the Department of Planning Dr Thanda Kyi. Representatives of the member states of BIMSTEC: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and officials from the Secretariat of the BIMSTEC.
Myanmar representatives are composed of officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international organizations.
The workshop discussed each member country’s current activities, challenges, difficulties encountered, and further plans to improve the implementation of good agricultural practices, ways to enhance cooperation in the field of agricultural practices among the member countries and ways to improve compliance.
BIMSTEC has been implementing 14 areas of cooperation in such as trade and investment, technology, energy, transportation, tourism, fishery, agriculture, culture, environmental conservation and natural disaster management, public health, poverty mitigation, anti-terrorism, and climate change by identifying leading countries. Myanmar is cooperating with member countries to take the lead in the agriculture and energy sectors. — MNA
