Military aid convoys leave for Cyclone Mocha-prone areas

Upon receiving information regarding the emergence of a low-pressure zone in the Bay of Bengal, as per the information obtained from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the National Disaster Management Committee promptly convened an emergency coordination meeting in line with the directives stipulated by the State Administration Council. Consequently, on 8 May, the Disaster Management Committee (DMC) was established.
Starting on 9 May, military aircraft delivered foodstuffs and medical accessories to Sittway, Kyaukpyu, and An. Based on the latest predictions, it has been forecasted that Cyclone Mocha, which has been intensifying in the Bay of Bengal since 11 May, will make landfall along Myanmar coasts as an extremely powerful cyclone. Moreover, it is expected that on 14 May, the cyclone will pass near Sittway.
The military convoy of 112 vehicles carrying relief and supplies was organized into 10 groups and left Yangon for Gwa, An and Kyauktaw yesterday. — MNA/KZW
