The opening ceremony of the Andaman sea trips for the 2019-2020 pre-high season in Kawthoung District was held on 26 September morning at the viewpoint in Bayint Naung Hill in Kawthoung Town.
U Nay Oo, the Kawthoung District Administrator, U Tin Myint, the chairman of the Township Development Affairs Committee, U Zaw Lin Tun, the Township Administrator, U Arkar Tun, the Assistant Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in Kawthoung District, and officials from the related departments and tour agencies attended the event.
As part of the event, the Marine Police Force and the Fire Services Department jointly performed search and rescue drills using speed boats, and the guests awarded honor prizes to them.
There are 30 untouched islands featured in the archipelago trips in Kawthoung District. Of them, visitors can make day trips to nine islands, and night trips to seven islands. At present, 12 hotels and resorts are offering their services in the area, and 28 tour agencies are operating 60 speed boats for visitors.
In the 2018-2019 high season, more than 350,000 domestic and international visitors visited the islands in Kawthoung District, according to the Assistant Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in Kawthoung District.
Most visitors enjoy swimming, rowing, diving, snorkeling, and taking photographs of the coral reefs around the islands. In addition, they can explore pearl farms and observe the lifestyles of the Salon ethic people. —Kyaw Soe (Kawthoung)/Translated by La Wonn
