Confiscation of illegal items: foodstuffs, industrial materials, consumer goods and vehicles

Seized illegal items in Kayin State.

The combined on-duty teams under Kayin State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force made inspections on 29 July and confiscated a Toyota HiAce vehicle and a Canter vehicle (approximate value of K30 million) carrying five kinds of goods worth K18.054 million including 240 packages of Dumex and 150 bags of fertilizer without official documents near Myaynigon junction in Myawady, a Scania tractor head and a trailer (estimated value of K90 million), headed to Yangon from Myawady, carrying two kinds of goods worth K24.96 million including 7,400 kilogrammes of Chewy candy choco that exceeded the quantity mentioned in the Import Declaration (ID) and a Dongfeng tractor head and a trailer (approximately K70 million), headed to Yangon from Myawady, carrying two kinds of goods worth K10.4 million including 80 Kargo brand new car batteries that exceeded the quantity mentioned in the ID at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint. The action was conducted under Customs procedures.
In addition, an on-duty team under Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections on 31 July and impounded 840 kilogrammes of Wai Wai instant rice vermicelli and 2,500 kilogrammes of Lactasoy soymilk that were not declared in the ID from a Nissan Diesel vehicle and a Hino truck (approximately K95 million) heading to Yangon from Myawady near Famous filling station in Phayagyi. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
A total of 14 arrests were made on 29 and 31 July, with an estimated value of K365,834,230, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
