Foreign Minister of Japan visits Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

A delegation led by Japanese Foreign Minister Mr. Taro Kono visited Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Yangon yesterday afternoon.
Deputy Minister For Ministry of Planning and Finance and Chairperson of Thilawa SEZ’s Management Committee U Set Aung and CEO and President of Myanmar Japan Thilawa Development Ltd Mr. Tomoyasu Shimizu explained to the Japanese Foreign Minister about how the Thilawa projects are gaining momentum. The delegation observed the One Stop Service Centre, which produces speakers and earphones, which was made possible because of an investment by Japanese companies.
Zone A of Thilawa started on 1 December, 2013 and 100 hectares of Zone B was implemented on 24 February, 2017. There are investors from 17 countries among the 89 registered factories , 39 of which are being operated.
Japan is giving aid with an Overseas Development Assistant Loan (ODA) for ease of infrastructure, electricity and transportation, it is learnt.
In the evening, the Japanese Foreign Minister and delegation arrived at Melia Hotel in Yangon and met with Japanese business groups.
