Health and Sports Union Minister attends 20th Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Conference

The 20th Myanmar Traditional Medicine Practitioners’ Conference was held at the Myanmar International Convention Centre-II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe urged the ministry’s Research Department and other related departments to enhance cooperation with international universities and organizations in finding safe and effective traditional medicines, therapies and herbal plants.
He also stressed the important role of curriculum of traditional medicine universities, teaching methods, quality of faculties, teaching aids, assessment system, research and cooperation with international universities in developing the Myanmar traditional medicine profession sustainably.
The Union Minister said the ministry has been providing assistance in all fronts to the development of Myanmar traditional medicine profession as it is playing an important role in health care services to the people.
He also called for controlling efficiency of medicines in every step of production chain for traditional medicines.
Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe pledged that the ministry would provide assistance at most to development of Myanmar traditional medicine, calling for holding symposium every four months inviting experts traditional medicine practitioners, manufacturers and experts.
Following his speech, Director-General of the Traditional Medicine Department Dr Moe Swe detailed about the measures being taken by the department.
The conference was also attended by Deputy Minister for Health and Sports Dr Mya Lay Sein, officials of the Traditional Medicine Department, Traditional Medicine University and related departments, members of the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Technical Advisory Group, patrons of the Myanmar Traditional Medicine Council and responsible personnel.
