The 2760 Kayin New Year was celebrated at the Kayin State government office in Hpa-an Township in Kayin State yesterday morning.
Firstly, the Kayin national flag hoisting ceremony was held with the traditional sound of a buffalo horn, and the strike of Kayin Hpasi at 6 am. The Kayin State Hluttaw Speaker U Saw Chit Khin raised the national flag to the top of the pillar while the Kayin national anthem was being sung together.
Those present at the ceremony saluted the Kayin national flag, and the master of the ceremony explained the history of the symbolic Kayin national flag.
At the new year celebration ceremony, the attendees saluted the flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and they paid tribute to General Aung San and the fallen martyr leaders.
After the reading of the messages from the State Counsellor and the Kayin State Chief Minister, the Kayin youths presented the origin of the Kayin National New Year in both Po Kayin, Sakaw Kayin and Myanmar languages and sang the song “Unity is strength”. After the ceremony, the Speaker of the State Hluttaw and Cabinet Ministers visited the homes of prominent Kayin grandparents who had served in the state and presented them with New Year’s gifts.—Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD) (Translated by Ei Phyu Phyu Aung)
