According to the findings of the investigation team, Dr Zaw Myint Maung, during his tenure as the Mandalay Region Chief Minister, received a bribe of 300,000 Thai baht from a company whose work was to obtain the permit of other uses of farmland related to the project area and to continue project activities in 2019 and 2020. He also received K65 million from a company operating the Amarapura Urban Development Project as a bribe. While he was receiving medical treatment in Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand in 2019, he accepted a bribe of US$100,000 in three instalments for medical expenses from a businessman operating projects in the Mandalay Region.
In 2019, the Government allocated 0.0171 acre of land worth K94.1 million for the NLD office in Myingyan Township/District and 0.172 acre of land worth K258 million for the NLD office in PyinOoLwin.
Due to his violation of the existing laws and regulations on paying the actual price of the lands, the state lost over K340 million.
Former Minister for Mandalay Region Electricity, Energy and Construction who also served as the Acting Chief Minister for Mandalay Region violated the existing rules and regulations by paying less than the actual prices of the lands allocated by the state for NLD party offices in Aungmyethazan and Chanayethazan townships. Due to that, the state lost more than 130 million kyats.
It is reported that the first complaint was lodged against Former Chief Minister Dr Zaw Myint Maung and Former Minister U Zar Ni Aung under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law at Aungmyaethazan Township Police Station on 6 July.
