Myanmar-Laos bilateral security and rule of law ministerial-level meeting held

A delegation, led by Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, arrived in Laos on 18 March to attend the Myanmar-Laos bilateral security and rule of law ministerial-level meeting.
On the morning of 20 March, high-ranking officials, led by Chief of Myanmar Police Force Maj-Gen Aung Win Oo, attended a preliminary meeting at Lao Plaza Hotel where top officials, led by Lao People’s Democratic Republic Ministry of Public Security Permanent Secretary Police Brig-Gen Sisavath Keomalavong, were also present. The meeting discussed matters relating to bilateral border security, the rule of law, anti-narcotics works and immigration.
Later in the afternoon, a Myanmar-Laos bilateral security and rule of law ministerial-level meeting was held at the Laos Ministry of Public Security. A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe and a Laos delegation led by Laos Minister for Public Security Police Maj-Gen Somkeo Sylavong were present at the meeting. At the meeting, matters relating to cooperation in bilateral security, rule of law and stability, sharing of information, increasing border liaison office processes, anti-drugs and anti-human trafficking works, illegal crossing of borders, learning of languages for easier and smoother communication and raising bilateral cooperation were discussed in detail. The ministers from the two nations signed the minutes of the meeting.
The Union Minister called on President of National Assembly of Laos H.E. Mrs Pany Yathotou at the National Congress Office on the morning of 21 March and discussed the outcome of the bilateral ministerial meeting and the increasing of good neighborly relations between Myanmar and Laos. The Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister was meant to return to Myanmar on 22 March.
