The Public Health Department held a meeting to negotiate matters relating to providing of diphtheria vaccination on 26 August in Tachilek district public general hospital compound in Shan State (East). The meeting was attended by District Administrator U Myint Naing, Township Administrator U Chan Myat Saw and personnel from Women’s Affairs Association, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Fire Services Department, Myanmar Red Cross and the Charity associations and the public health staff. At the meeting, district public health officer Dr Khin Aung delivered a speech while the paediatrician explained facts about diphtheria disease.
Then, a doctor explained the methods and planned to avoid being crowded when we carry out the vaccination activities in the wards. At present, six people died of diphtheria while 45 others were infected with it in Tachilek town. The vaccination was conducted on 27 August in wards and villages in the townships in Tachilek district at the same time. To be able to prevent the people from being thronged, some 42 teams provide diphtheria vaccination to over 12,000 children who are under the age of 15 years. —Yar Hsay (IPRD) (Translated by Hay Mar)
