A project to lay an undersea Communications cable linking Singapore, Myanmar and India (with landing points in India at Mumbai and Chennai) is being implemented, according to a press conference held on 22 January at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel.
NTT Ltd, a top global technology services provider, has invested US$400 million in the MIST submarine cable project.
“Implementing the project will enable faster data transfer. The construction will be part of a strategic joint venture for international submarine cables in South East Asia,” said Mr. Sutas Kongdumrongkait, chief executive officer of NTT Ltd.
An 11,000-kilometer-long undersea cable will be laid as part of the $400-million MIST project. The cable will be used in June, 2022.
NTT Ltd has opened its Myanmar office by obtaining a licence from the Ministry of Commerce. The digital technology solutions provider will be able to meet the need to accelerate the development of information and technology in Myanmar. The Myanmar telecommunications sector is growing at 6-12 per cent annually, which is higher than the GDP growth rate in most developing Asian countries.
