Rakhine Advisory Board member meets with authorities, two communities separately in Maungtaw to hold reconciliation talks

A delegation led by Mr.Roelof Meyer, former Defence Minister of South Africa, member of the Advisory Board for the Committee for Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine State, met with local authorities, people from two different communities in Maungtaw, Rakhine State, yesterday, seeking ways to hold talks on reconciliation between the two communities.
First, he held a meeting with the officials at the meeting hall of the Maungtaw District General Administration Department in Maungtaw.
At the meeting, U Ye Htoo, Deputy District Administrator, briefed about the terrorist attacks that had occurred in Maungtaw, repatriation process for displaced people who had left their homes due to the terrorist attacks and the works for Maungtaw region development, resettlement and ongoing processes.
Afterwards, Mr.Roelof Meyer discussed with the authorities seeking ways to hold talks on reconciliation between the two communities.
Meeting with two different communities
In the afternoon, Mr. Roelof Meyer and party met separately with the towns elders of Maungtaw Township, people from Islamic community and people of Rakhine community, and discussed their opinions, views and suggestions over planning for reconciliation talks between the two communities.
