Slight decline in violent crime in Yangon: police

VIOLENT crime rates have
declined slightly in Yangon Region this year, with 26 fewer instances reported than at the same period last year, according to Yangon Region Police Force.
The office of the commander of the Yangon Region Police Force said that between January and September this year, 295 cases of violent crimes were reported to police. This included 123 murders, 46 muggings, 17 burglaries, 92 cases of rape and three cases of armed robbery. In 2014 the total number of violent crimes recorded in the first nine months of the year was 321, which included 148 cases of murder and 37 cases of mugging.
Yangon is widely considered to be one of the safest cities in Asia, particularly in regards to petty theft and acts of public violence.
