Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann explains Myanmar’s move for coming elections

Washington DC, 3 May — Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann attended a seminar on Elections 2015 in Myanmar held in the headquarters of Carnegie Endownment in Washington DC on 1 May.
The speaker stressed cooperation among the government, parliament, people, political parties and social organizations in making the elections free and fair, saying the coming elections are crucial for Myanmar. According to him, international observers have been invited.
He also met National Democratic Institute (NDI), International Republican Institute (IRI) and International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) at NDI’s headquarters.
At the meeting, they discussed the development of democratic reform in Myanmar and issues related to the successful holding of elections in 2015.
On 2 May, Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann and his entourage visited Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, where they observed the invention of the airplane by Wright brothers, aircraft used in World War II, aircraft in use, and NASA’s first spacecraft.
They also visited the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, where a curator of Asian culture showed them round the gallery. MNA
