A total of 1,976 tourists and local travellers visited two Community-Based Tourism (CBT) sites in Sagaing Region as of December, 2019, said U Aung Thu Oo, head of the Sagaing Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
The two sites are Nwe Nyein Village in Kyaukmyaung Town, Shwebo District and Indaung Village in Watlat Township of Sagaing Region. The CBT programmes caught the attention of many tourists on account of the special interactions between local fishermen and the famous Ayeyawady Dolphins. Tourists could also observe village life and learn about architecture, religion, tradition, and even handicraft skills.
As of December-end, the Nwe Nyein CBT site attracted 100 local travellers and 627 tourists, while 834 local visitors and 415 tourists visited the Indaung CBT destination, according to data released by the regional Directorate of Investment and Company Administration. —Win Oo (Zeyartine) (Translated by Ei Myat Mon)
