Walking Thingyan in Mandalay attracts revelers

Walking Thingyan on the 26th Street becomes a popular site in the Thingyan Festival in Mandalay.

Crowds flocked to Mandalay City’s pandals, pavilions and entertainment stages yesterday, the Akya day of the Myanmar Traditional New Year Water festival.
“Walking Thingyan” on 26th street has attracted revelers this year, making the festival more attractive than previous years.

The Mandalay City Thingyan Pavilion in the southern part of ancient Mandalay moat was one of the popular venues, with the Sein Du Wa Myanmar Orchestra performing Myanmar traditional Thingyan songs together with famous singers.
Those in attendance danced and clapped during the performances and also threw water on each other, a tradition of washing away the previous year’s sins and welcoming in a new year with a clean slate.Starting from the morning, famous singers such as Lin Lin, Chit Thu Wai, Sone Thin Par and the popular Myanmar Idol winners performed, to the delight of the water festival lovers.
Many revellers toured the Thingyan pavilions around the Mandalay Ancient moats and enjoyed the performances of traditional Myanmar Thingyan dances performed by the many well-known singers.
