Illegal timber, juice, unregistered motorcycles seized

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, the effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
On 7 February, the Yangon Region Forest Department and combined inspection team conducted a surprise check and seized a total of K120,480 worth of illegal teak (0.4016 tonne) near No 3 Highway junction in Hlegu Township.
On 8 February, Ayeyawady Region Forest Department confiscated K36,190 worth of illegal timber (0.517 tonne) in Yekyi Township.
Similarly, the inspection team led by Bago Region Customs Department launched surprise checks and seized K2,020,000 worth of 22 undocumented packs of various juices from a passenger vehicle on the same day.
On 9 February, the region Forest Department also seized K3,646,810 worth of illegal timbers (12.5971 tonnes) in the forest reserve of Bago District.
Moreover, Rakhine State Forest Department confiscated 43.82 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K3,067,400 in Taungup Township.
The Sagaing Region inspection team also seized two unregistered motorcycles worth of K800,000 in Monywa and Kanbalu townships. Thus, a total of seven arrests (estimated value of K9,690,880) were made on 7, 8 and 9 February and the officials took action under the Forest Law, the Customs Law and the Export and Import Law, the committee stated. — MNA
