MoRAC Union Minister attends research paper-reading session for archaeology, museum maintenance

The Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Yangon) and the Yangon National Museum under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture jointly held a research paper-reading session related to archaeology and museum maintenance at the Yangon National Museum on 9 March, in line with the COVID-19 health guidelines.
Present at the ceremony are Union Minister U Ko Ko for Religious Affairs and Culture, the director-general, rector, chairpersons, directors, invited persons, the media, researchers, enthusiastic individuals, and officials concerned.
At the event, the Union Minister delivered that six research papers were read. Those resource persons engaged in archaeological and museum-related matters were required to enhance knowledge exchange and collaboration to generate valuable ideas.
He also encouraged to make efforts for museums to go digital through virtual tours. Digital platforms have become common for museums across the globe these days. As a result of this, all must strive to improve digital engagement in museums.
Later, Director-General Dr Kyaw Oo Lwin of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum gave the remark regarding the intradepartmental research paper-reading session. The reading session was held accordingly.
In the morning, U Htoo Aung Chun, deputy staff officer of Bago Region Branch, presented a paper entitled the epigraphs in Bago, Daw Tin Thet Thet Zaw from the National Museum Yangon “The Throne with cultural relations between Myanmar and India”, and deputy staff officer U Khin Maung Lay of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Yangon) ‘‘the architecture and artworks of pagodas on Setkya hill near Pyar Village, Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region’’.
In the afternoon, U Khin Maung Soe, assistant director of the department (Dawei Branch) presented a paper on the initial survey and research process in laterite ores extraction in Taninthayi city, deputy staff officer Daw Tin Nu Nu Moe of the National Museum (Yangon) revealed a paper entitled digital museum, and U Hla Pyone, deputy staff officer of Yangon Branch (Yangon) read a paper on cultural heritage study in Ywathitgyi village and the surroundings in Sagaing District.
Prof Dr Thin Thin Aye, head of the Department of History at the University of Yangon, Prof Dr Soe Ni Tun, head of the Department of Archaeology, Daw Thi Thi Thaung, assistant director of the National Museum (Yangon), staff officer Daw Hnin Hnin, assistant director Daw Cherry Thin and the professionals shared the ideas and knowledge. Dr Kyaw Oo Lwin also analyzed the papers at the event. — MNA
