Hanthawaddy U Ohn Kyaing was elected the Myanmar Press Council’s Vice Chairman (1), following an election held on 16 February at the Myanmar Press Council Office in Yangon.
Former Vice Chairman (1) U Aung Hla Tun was appointed as Deputy Minister for Information, and the vacant Vice Chairman (1) position was filled following a voting system by the Myanmar Press Council members.
“We are doing our best for the proper establishment of the fourth pillar. We will also strive toward the media’s right to write freely,” said Hanthawaddy U Ohn Kyaing.
Sayagyi Hanthawaddy U Ohn Kyaing began his journalism career as a reporter for the Hanthawaddy Daily in 1945, and later went on to became an editor. He was the chair of the Myanmar press paper reading session organizing committee and worked with the Myanmar Journalists Association.
Sayagyi Hanthawaddy U Ohn Kyain was also presented with the Hero of Journalist Award at the fifth Myanmar National Press Awards.
