On 13 January, a team on duty under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area seized 0.300 tonne of illegal timbers, estimated at K 32,122. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 14 January, a team on duty under the supervision of the Customs Department intercepted two cars travelling from Mawlamyine to Yangon and Myawady to Yangon at the Mayanchaung checkpoint. The cars contained three kinds of goods, including 1,000 kilogrammes of JK Copier copy paper and 30 used Bridge Stone bicycles, all valued at K 5.6 million, without official documents. A Mitsubishi Fuso truck and a Nissan Condor truck were also seized, estimated at K45 million. The total value of the seizures amounted to K50.6 million, and the action was taken under Customs Procedure.
Subsequently, on 15 January, an on-duty team under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force of Bago Region seized 4.710 tonnes of illegal hardwood, estimated at K 1.177 million. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Six arrests were made on 13, 14, and 15 January, with an estimated value of K 51.809 million, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. – MNA/KZW
