MoALI Deputy Minister inspects agricultural system in Taninthayi Region

The raw industrial crop, which is crucial for local industries and the export sector, is planted on about 1.6 million acres and the second largest plantation is in Taninthayi Region. Educational programmes are conducted for the right choice of seedlings and plantation processes, said Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi during the demonstration of the Rain-guard Tapping System at Perennial Crops Research and Development Centre (Shwedoo) in Myeik Township of Myeik District in Taninthayi Region on 23 March.
During the demonstration, the official of the Department of Agriculture reported on the good and weak points of the Rain-guard Tapping System and the deputy minister and party gave orange seedlings and other materials to the owners of rubber farms.
Then, the deputy minister and party attended the handover ceremony of vegetable species and demonstration of preventing pests on summer paddy held in fields of farmer U Aye Chan in Sandawutt village of Myeik Township.
In Taninthayi Region, the average output per acre of paddy was 70.25 baskets with 72.50 per cent of local food security last year and the local food security increased to 72.87 per cent with 71.79 baskets per acre of paddy this year.
The deputy minister also met with the palm oil entrepreneurs at the District Agriculture Department office on the same evening. During the meeting, he discussed the enhancement of technology for palm oil production and investment, all-inclusive and sustainable businesses supporting farmers of small-scale plantations, the establishment of palm oil organizations in the Taninthayi Region and cooperation to set up the oil mills. — MNA/KTZH
