MoE discusses 32 mln euro disbursement of EU

The Ministry of Education and the European Union held the Education Sector Reform Contract Policy Dialogue on 23 March for the EU’s disbursement of 32 million euro (K51 billion) in support of education reform in Myanmar.
Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi and EU Ambassador Mr Kristian Schmidt presided over the meeting held at the headquarters of MoE in Nay Pyi Taw, with the support of MyGovernance Project.
The Union Minister said that his office will cooperate with the EU in promoting equal access to education for all the children in Myanmar while the ministry is implementing free education system and all-inclusive education.
The MoE is supplying the volunteer teachers with stipend and ferry buses, and constructing school buildings with the assistance of international partner organizations.
He added that the ministry has formed a committee with relevant departments to create opportunities of basic education for the domestic migrant children in Phakant Township, Kachin State.
The Union Minister expressed thanks to the EU, and reaffirmed future cooperation between the ministry and the EU in vocational education and training, promotion of ethnic languages and literatures and education reform programmes.
EU Ambassador Mr Kristian Schmidt also congratulated the government’s to improve the access and the quality of education for all children despite many challenges in Myanmar.
This is the second payment of EU from a total of 221 million euro (K382 billion) committed to support education to Myanmar. —MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
